relay with chariots

i went to sleep last night knowing that something will have changed back at home by the time i woke up.

and sure enough,

barack obama...!

one of the US volunteers here casted her vote via an absentee ballot. i could've voted also, but i was torn between the two candidates that i decided not to. i'm still a little torn by the result, not knowing what to think of it. i'm just glad this race is over!

the beginning of bible study this morning involved a brief discussion of our feelings/opinions on the result, our personal stances on certain issues. it's funny how south africans on this campus found out sooner than the americans here, but it goes to show that the entire world was following this presidential election. it seems everyone, not only americans, is expecting something to come out of this election and the newly elected president, especially at times like these: a new direction, a new plan, a new image for the nation that seems to impact so many others. "he has a lot of work to do. i wouldn't want to be in his shoes," someone said.

but really,

as much as we should care about the president's character, his policies on issues, and how these things will impact us and how we live,

all it really comes down to is,

God's will will be done

no matter whose hands the baton gets pass onto.

i am not a democrat or a republican;

i am a Christian.

Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.
- Psalm 20:7

Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire.
- Hebrews 12:28-29

in many ways i can relate to your post...i have only voted once in my life and it wasn't even during a presidential election year....in the past, i have made the excuse that i was not "up on the issues" enough to make a decision to vote...but really, alot of it has been apathy...i should make a better effort to become more politically aware and proactive about my views...but in the end, like you said, we are followers of Christ above all else...i happened to hear an interview with the mayor of san ramon (who is african american and a republican) who is running for state assembly...the reporter asked him his thoughts on obama becoming our new president....and his first response was something like "before i am a democrat or republican, i am an american"...i hope that the church holds firm to the belief that no matter who is in office, our ultimate citizenship is in heaven...

Well said Hannah! I am humbled by your post!
Politicians have a high and important position in our country. They are leaders and should be respected and prayed for. However, even if their intentions are for the good and have strong beliefs they often have to compromise. That is how our political system works in our country. I believe compromise is not always wrong, but there are some things that should not be compromise.
Jesus never compromise. That is why it is so true that following Christ is above all else like Charlie, Megiddo, and you mentioned.
Thank you for helping reminding me that, for often I want to follow my own ways or someone elses and not that of Christ Jesus!
Let me add as well, I heard once on a Christian radio station on someone commenting on the President position. They said that a Missionary for Christ has a higher position than the President. I believe that is true. The President of the USA definitely has a high and important position. But his reign is temporary, 8 years the most and then the next person comes in and changes things. His impact for the most part is temporary, but Hannah, your work, as a missionary, is everlasting. The people you serve for Christ Jesus is not temporary. My God continue to be with you and I'll keep praying for you!
